Marie Scott – Biography

Born in Kirkwall, Orkney, Marie Scott Studied in Aberdeen under the renowned Scottish painter, William Burns.

She now lives East Lothian, close to the sea, both of which have a great influence on her work.

“Painting to me is an emotional reaction to what I see around me. It is hoped that through colour, texture and form, the feelings I have about the work are conveyed to the viewer.”

Marie has shown work extensively in group shows including the RGI at the Maclellan Gallery Glasgow, the SSA (in which she won the Wren & Bell purchase prize 1998) & (Firth Gallery Prize 1999) SAAC/VAS and the RSA at the Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh, Castlegate House Gallery Cockermouth, The Stenton Gallery, Stenton, Ainscough Contemporary Art London, The Richmond Hill Gallery, London, G.R.Gallery, Edinburgh, Queens Road Gallery, Aberdeen, as well as being a finalist in the Laing Competition twice. SSA Professional membership awarded Feb 2003.

Artist’s Statement

“For the past three years I have been working from my studio in Dunbar. The proximity of the sea, the harbours, particularly the Cromwellian one, has fired my imagination. Fishermen’s sheds, shore detritus, extremes of tides and weather all filter into my word.”
